Gorgeous, incredibly special, and rare, antique 1930’s silk chiffon, bias cut, maxi gown in a floral, watercolor-esque fabric print with puff shoulder sleeves and tendril details placed vertically along the skirt.
Made by the NRA, came with the original tag and style number. Exceptionally architected, with so much attention to detail added to the design. I can now completely see the material difference between home-made dresses (which are remarkable and heavenly) and those made by the skilled garment workers of the NRA. Each part of this dress contains mindfully chosen and placed fabrics that provide the highest form of utility and comfort for the wearer.
The agency existed only from 1933-1935, as it was part of “The New Deal,” which Franklin D Roosevelt created to stabilize the economy after the Great Depression. Such a cool tid-bit of info that comes with this stunning antique dress.
Fully lined in what feels like very breathable, flesh colored cotton, which is transformed into to netting fabric along the chest, throughout the shoulder - to functionally help absorb any possible sweat or bodily scents to mitigate any adulteration to the silk chiffon fabric. 4 metal snap in buttons along the side are placed along the left side of the dress, under the arm pit. The backside contains a sultry cowl neckline.
The skirt is topped with tendrils of chiffon placed vertically, which gracefully flutter as you walk and move while wearing this garment. This dress can be worn with the cowl detail in front or in back, allowing you to create two pieces from one just by adjusting the styling and accessories by a little bit. The cowl neckline is wone in back for the photos.
Seen on a size XS/S unpinned. Can accommodate sizes an XS, XS/S, S. Pleasure refer to measurements to ensure proper fit.

Condition:
Great antique condition. The silk is soft, and sturdy. The lining is fully in tact. I’ve added some cut out floral Alencon lace appliqué’s to cover small pin holes. There might be a couple that I missed - certainly not visible to the onlooker.
Side note** while this dress did come with an original NRA tag that has the style number and the writing on it is perfectly visible…I carefully took it off before giving this beauty a quick soak in cold water. I didn’t want to ruin the tag. The tag was in one spot for some-time, a spot visible to me everyday. Today, I went to look in that same spot - the tag is gone somehow. If I ever find-it, I’ll apply it back on if I happen to find it before this is sold. A lost tag doesn’t take away from the true history of this incredible garment!
